Jacob Manley recently completed his first quarter at Peninsula College as a Running Start student. Manely attended Sequim High School before deciding to attend PC, where he’s taking classes to prepare for his future academic and career goals.
Manley felt confined at high school, and at the end of his sophomore year, he started researching alternatives to traditional education. Jacob learned about the program through a family friend “who told me what Running Start was really like. She explained how beneficial Running Start could be for my future.”
In Running Start, Manley is earning college credit while finishing high school graduation requirements. He’s also studying alongside mature students and faculty who challenge him. At PC, he says, “I’m not treated like a high schooler attending Running Start. I’m treated like an adult attending college, and that makes the whole experience better.”
Jacob is thankful for the variety of resources PC makes available to all students. One service helping him succeed is the Writing Center, which he said “has been a crucial tool for my education.”
After graduating from PC, Jacob is considering staying in Washington State. He plans to transfer to a university and pursue a career in zoology and primatology.
