As mentioned in my PC blog five years ago, Peninsula College is where I made the decision and commitment to myself to pursue a musical journey in 2011. Not only that, but PC is also the place where I met numerous wonderful people who inspired me throughout my entire musical journey namely, Dr. David Jones (my academic advisor at PC), Professor Kristin Quigley Brye (my piano professor at PC), Dr. Alexander Tutunov (my piano professor at SOU), and Ms. Randa Wintermute (my life coach/mentor). Ultimately, these people have greatly influenced me and changed my life forever.
The academic year of 2021-22 is my third year with the School of Music and Dance at the University of Oregon in Eugene, where I am pursuing the highest academic level in the music performance field – Doctor of Musical Arts. Furthermore, I serve as a graduate employee instructing both private piano classes as well as accompanying other UO music studios. I enjoy what I am accomplishing as a part-time instructor sharing my knowledge at an accredited institution. Additionally, I serve as an artist-in-residence at a well-known music school for young students in Lane County. In 2022, I also have been invited to be a guest artist at Western Washington University, Peninsula College, Southern Oregon University, Grande Ronde Symphony Orchestra and Juneau Arts and Culture Center. In other words, I have been blessed for many years on my musical journey which is certainly the life that I desired. Piano performing is not limited only to my physical level as being “an athlete on 88 keys”, but also cultivates the feeling of inner joy which holds a unique personal experience; it has the feeling of taking myself into the world of another dimension – this is priceless!
The outbreak of the pandemic which had a lasting impact on each one of us in 2020, the loss of family members and friends and isolation between people had made me rethink what is most important in my life from many different perspectives. Because of these life events, I began to explore the medical field. Currently, I hold double Master’s degrees in Piano Pedagogy and Piano Performance. In 2021, I published my first document, Stretching Exercises from Martial Arts and Pre-Conditioning Piano Exercises with Scores and Video. In addition, I established the social media platform on the internet, “Garlic Music Zone Channel”, to encourage classical piano music via illustration.
Thank you for your time reading my story. I hope to see you in June 2022 in Maier Hall at Peninsula College.
